Nurse Certification Prominent: Events at NTI 2008 will Honor Certificants and Encourage Future Participation

Certified nurses and prospective certificants will find many interesting events and activities at NTI this week. Following are a few of the highlights.

Certification Celebration

One of the most popular events at NTI, the Certification Celebration dinner will be held Tuesday, May 6 with a cash bar starting at 5:45 p.m.

Atrium
Clarian Health
Hill-Rom

The event is open to ACNPs, ACNPCs, CCRNs, CCNSs, PCCNs, CMCs, CSCs and CCRN alumni. The dinner, co-sponsored by Hill-Rom and Clarian Health in partnership with AACN Certification Corporation, will include recognition activities and prize drawings. Atrium Medical is again providing special memento coffee mugs.

Certification Session Highlights

Mark your calendar for Monday at 4:15 p.m. to attend “Differences in Perceptions of Empowerment: Certified vs. Noncertified Nurses.” During this session, you’ll learn about preliminary research findings on differences between specialty and subspecialty certified nurses and noncertified nurses in: 1) empowerment, and 2) intent to leave their current position and the profession. Nurses’ perceptions of their work environment have been considered an important factor in enhancing retention and job satisfaction.

You’ll also want to attend “Intensive Power Units: Healthy Work” Tuesday at noon. This session explores how healthy work environments empower and motivate nurses to pursue specialty certification. Key topics include a discussion of healthy work environment characteristics that promote nurse empowerment; strategies to build powerful work environments; and strategies to support nursing staff in certification efforts. This session will be especially relevant for managers, directors, clinical nurse specialists and staff leaders seeking to create healthy, powerful work environments and to promote specialty certification. There are two prerequisites for this event: a passionate commitment to building powerful work environments and the conviction that specialty certification is worth the investment.

Rejuvenate at the Oasis

Clarian Health

The Certification Oasis is a great place for certified acute and critical care nurses to relax, enjoy light refreshments and chat with colleagues between sessions. Individuals interested in becoming certified are encouraged to stop by the Oasis to speak with AACN Certification Corporation representatives. The Oasis is co-sponsored by Clarian Health and AACN Certification Corporation.

Learn More About Renewal by Synergy CERPs

Do you have questions about Renewal by Synergy CERPs? Visit the Certification Oasis to learn more about this certification renewal program launched earlier this year. Based on the AACN Synergy Model for Patient Care, this certification renewal method is being phased in and will replace the current Renewal by CERPs program in 2010. As a result, names, definitions and weighting of CERPs categories will change.
